The Grade 10 Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test
Why not let The Tutor House help prepare your son or daughter to prepare for the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test? The test is given first in Grade 10 and is based on Grade 9 Literacy standards. If the student does not pass, he/she can try again in the following years. It has to be passed to graduate from high school.
That’s where we come in. We like grammar, spelling, reading and writing and all that it entails. And we like to instil that love for words in our clients. We even work on improving their handwriting so the resulting work will be legible! We work one-to-one with our clients, so we can hone in on areas that need improvement- at the client’s pace. And we have fun doing it!
The assessment has two components: multiple-choice and open-response. Once the client is familiar with the test format and what’s required, we practise till he or she feels confident. We use actual tests from past years and sample tests provided by the Ministry of Education for practise, and offer grammar and vocabulary enhancement, plus techniques to improve spelling, reading for information, and for writing paragraphs and essays. Our students say the extra work jives nicely with the preparation work offered at school, and that it does give them the self-assurance they need to take the test.
