The Tutor House specializes in handwriting for both children and adults.
If you or your child’s printing or handwriting is difficult to read, you are not alone. It’s become a widespread problem, mainly for two reasons: our busy school curriculums simply do not allow for much penmanship practice; and we do so much of our “writing” on the computer.
Handwriting is personal. It’s therapeutic and an art form. It doesn't rely on power or batteries. It's a skill that you will always have at your fingertips.
The Tutor House offers coaching in three styles of handwriting: a beautiful, simple italic cursive called “Getty-Dubay”; a simple upright style, appropriately called “Handwriting without Tears”; plus the “traditional” style still taught at many schools.
One-to-one, we go through the formation of each printed letter and learn connecting rules for cursive writing.
The result is… legibility!
The “Getty-Dubay” alphabet features a very smooth transition from print to cursive, resulting in a legible, loop-free handwriting style. ”Getty-Dubay” is also recommended for children with ADD and other learning challenges; it is very simple to learn. It eliminates the difficulties dyslexic children experience with mirroring or reversible letters. And it’s so pleasing to the eye!
The “Handwriting Without Tears” style is a neat alternative alphabet style for anyone. It is often recommended by Durham teachers and therapists for special needs students as well. It’s very basic; easy to learn and remember.
